So I got Perfect Blood, the newest Hollows novel, yesterday. I'm gonna be reading it today and probably tomorrow, live-tweeting some of the most frustrating, amusing, Rachel/Ivy containing parts with commentary and page numbers as I go.

If  anyone wants to follow along, I can be found over at @HollowsRant rather than my usual twitter. This one will be full of spoilers and I think there might be one or two spoiler free peeps on my usual twitter. I'd love to hear thoughts and comments as I go!

"It was an accident, Turn it!" That...sounded pretty bad, even to my own ears.

"You tripped and accidentally fell on Skimmer's lips?" Ivy sounded beyond skeptical. She was pissed. And hurt. Damn it back to the Turn! I had just screwed this up again, just when I thought I might finally have a chance at making it right. "I can understand if you don't want to be with me, Rachel. If you don't feel that way or you're scared, but don't lie to me. You owe me more than that."

"It wasn't like that, Ivy," I said weakly.

"Then what was it like?" Ivy demanded.

I considered it and winced. What I had to say wasn't going to sound any better. "I don't care about Skimmer."

"And yet your tongue was down her throat," Ivy countered without missing a beat, her arched brows demanding some kind of explanation.

"Because I don't care about her!" I protested again, stomping my foot. Why couldn't Ivy just understand? It made perfect sense, Turn it!

"Rachel." Ivy pressed the heel of her hand against her forehead, a gesture that I knew meant her head was throbbing, and let out a long suffering sigh. "You're not making sense."

"I am too!"

Ivy let out a pained snort. "You sound like a three year old."

"Stop making fun of me."

"I'm not making fun of you," Ivy snapped. "I'm trying to figure how you accidentally made out with my friend when you've spent the last three years rubbing my nose in the fact that you're straight."

"Because I love you, you idiot!" My exasperated exclamation rendered the room silent. Oh Turn it, why had I said that? I hadn't meant to say. I had wanted to create the big, perfect, romantic moment, give Ivy an experience like she had never had before, and then she had blown it. By walking in on me and Skimmer making out.

"What did you just say?" Ivy asked in a low voice, the grey silk tones of her voice sounding predatory and threatening even as they wrapped around my body like a seductive caress.

"I said I love you," I whispered.

"As a friend," Ivy added, her hands clenching and releasing at her side the only indication of how she was struggling.

"No." I hesitated. That didn't sound right. "Well, yes. But-"

"Rachel?" Ivy waited for me to luck up, her eyes finding hers. "Shut up." And then she kissed me. What she made me feel was indescribable. What the Turn had I been waiting for? Oh, right.

Ivy's lips released mine and she leaned away from me tilting her head. I held my breath, wondering what she was about to say. Okay, so my kissing technique probably wasn't up to her standards, and my breath was probably way garlic-y from the leftover Chinese food I'd had for lunch, but it couldn't be that bad, could it? Not after we'd waited that long.

"Skimmer?"

"Oh. Oh, right." Coherent thought, I needed to form it. Which Ivy's proximity and the memory of Ivy's kiss still lingering on my lips weren't doing anything to help.

"I love you."

Ivy's breath hitched.

"I mean, I've known that for a while now," I said, wrapping my arms around myself. "I just wasn't sure..." I shook my head. "I didn't know if I could do the whole, you know, girl thing."

Ivy's eyes fell closed, her expression falling away, leaving her face blank and showing nothing. If I didn't hurry up, she wouldn't hear anything I was saying and I needed her to hear it. I grabbed her hand. "Listen. I knew I loved you but I didn't know if I would like it. I couldn't just walk up to you and kiss you and then say, no, sorry, doesn't work for me. I care about you too much to do that."

Ivy hesitated, then her eyes slid open looking suspiciously damp. "So you kissed Skimmer?"

I nodded. "Because I hate Skimmer."

Her head fell back against the wall with a thud. "You're an idiot," Ivy said in a no-nonsense tone of voice.

It stung, but given the events of the past few minutes I held onto the retort that was dying to fly off my tongue. I was still waiting, hoping for something else. Ivy hadn't given any indication of how she felt.

She sighed. "But you're my idiot." Her hand circled my wrist and she tugged, pulling me closer. I came willingly, leaning up against her, until we were touching down the line of our bodies. Our lips were just about to meet for a second time when she pulled back, her eyes narrowed. "But no more accidents involving you and Skimmer."

"You're not going to blog about this are you?"

With Doris sprawled, naked and sweaty, across her bed, giving her a measuring look it seems insulting, but Blake knows why she's asking. She gets it. That doesn't mean she likes it. She's changed, turned over a new leaf.

"Don't be silly."

Doris sits up. "Because it's your bed I'm in?"

Blake turns her head away. She feels hurt, not romantic. Doris touches her thigh. Apology in a brush of skin. Blake sighs, shifts toward her.

"Because I like you."

Doris kisses her hard.

Why yes, I realize that it's Christmas Day, almost a whole month after the end of NaNo.  (And a Merry Christmas/Happy Saturday to everyone!) But I also just realized while goofing around on the internet this afternoon that I'd never gotten around to commenting on the results of the story - Let Sleeping Vamps Lie - that I was trying to finish up during November.

The bad news is that I really, really did not get anything done. I'm sorry about that. It's a story that I really liked the idea of and really wanted to finish - just to have it done.

I apologize to anyone out there who's still interested and was hoping I'd get it finished up. I'm not sure if this qualifies as good or bad news, but I still haven't written it off entirely. I do want to finish it...sometime. I'm just not sure when that will be. :)

Hopefully I'll have better luck the next time I give it a shot.
So how's it going for me? Why thank you for asking! It's the fifth of November and my total word count is...wait for it...let me check...54.

But um, really it's only 52 because two of those words are "part so-and-so".

I have given myself a pep talk about not freaking out because I've written essentially nothing so far, because I've also had a crazy week this week. The thing that I have in my corner is that I don't have a set word count that I'm trying to reach, just a goal of finally finishing this fic. So it's a little less pressure that way.

I'll just start writing when I have a chance and see what happens. Hopefully it will be good fic that others enjoy reading. :)

On a different topic, I'm exhausted and I'm not going to be updating July 5th tonight in case anyone was wondering.
I was just curious about what everyone thought about the fact that Ivy is in love with Rachel and pretty much everyone gets it, as characters and readers. I was just curious about whether Rachel gets it. I mean, denseness is practically her superpower, so there's that. But it seems to impossible to miss. Has it every been mentioned in the books? Thoughts?

So, I'm not doing NaNo in the traditional sense, but I am thinking about taking advantage of November to get a solid hefty chunk of writing done on...something yet to be decided. There are several things I've been thinking about so I thought I'd throw a couple of them out and see what everyone thought.

Note: just because everyone agrees I should write something doesn't mean I necessarily will. I reserve the right to be contrary and change my mind at will. Aren't I just a bundle of laughs.

Option 1:  Finish Let Sleeping Vamps Lie. Don't everyone jump on this all at once.

Option 2: Finish the Alphabet Drabble Meme. Yes, I know this wouldn't be that complicated for anyone else, but apparently I'm having issues with the whole drabble concept. Because they aren't working out very short and drabble-like.

Option 3: Something Otalia related. Ask [livejournal.com profile] rysler . My list of Otalia related plot bunnies is at least a mile long as is. Of course, for folks who would jump for this option first, consider that I've been working on a fairly pretty darn long Otalia fic lately that I have yet to start posting but will hopefully be completed and ready for posting in the near future.

So...thoughts?

This image actually looks pretty damn cool. It has me intrigued as to what Rachel is doing with the lightning/ley line energy and the road trip book has always sounded cool.

Why can't Rachel just get her head out of her ass about Ivy so I can start enjoying these books again instead of feeling like I'm torturing myself every time I read one of them, damn it!

Characters: Rachel Morgan, Ivy Tamwood,
Genre: Drama, angst, romance
Word Count:  8,460 (total)

Spoilers:
Vague ones for some of Black Magic Sanction.
Notes: Written for [info]geonncannon. This was only supposed to be a short 500 - 1000 word long fic, but well I apparently can't write short Hollows fic. I didn't think you'd mind. ;)

Also this was intended to be a one-shot, but due to length, I can't get it all in one post. So check back shortly for the rest of it.

Part One

But tonight those rules didn’t apply. Tonight, I could take what Ivy was offering, be as close to her as I wanted - as we both wanted - and there would be no consequences. No chance that Ivy would lose control and take too much blood or that I would have to hurt her to defend myself. It was almost perfect. Almost. )

I'm supposed to be participating in the most recent Femslash for Fans radio show with Allaine about the Hollows. There's only one minor hitch: I'm not going to be able to call in on time due to other demands on my time. However, my answers are written up and ready to be read as part of the author interviews, the host, Allaine, just needs someone to read my responses. Would anyone be willing to help out?

The show takes place at 7 PM EST on March 14th, and would involve calling in to the radio show, which isn't an 800 number and staying on for probably about 45 minutes? If you're interested, please drop me a comment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the description  for the show, btw:

Deeply in love, Ivy is repeatedly frustrated by her partner's atrocious taste in men, yet always comes back to her . . . wait a minute, this isn't my Poison Ivy/Harley Quinn show. This is my show on the "Dead Witch Walking" series written by Kim Harrison, now eight books and still going strong. But that doesn't mean there aren't similarities. The ultimate "will-they-or-won't-they", the close friendship and working relationship of the stubbornly straight witch Rachel Morgan and the very bisexual vampire Ivy Tamwood continues to dance teasingly close to romance - yet always infuriatingly steps away again. And Harrison's public statements on the subject are frequently belied by the words she writes. (Seriously, if they're not going to hook up, then stop making it look like they are.) Fortunately, none of that has stopped talented fanfic authors from pulling Rachel's head out of her ass and giving Ivy what she's been waiting for. We'll talk to three of those authors - Jaina, whose stories include "Return to the Hollows" and "Let Sleeping Vamps Lie"; Savior, author of the ongoing novella "Entre l'amour et la mort"; and Apatija, writer of the "Kitchen is Mine" series. There will also be a discussion of "Black Magic Sanction", the latest installment which was just published on February 23rd, 2010, and what (if anything) it means for our hopes for Rachel/Ivy in the future.
I'm reading Black Magic Sanction at the moment. I'm still in the early parts. I'm trying not to spoil myself before I finish.  Mixed reactions so far. I'll post more when I'm done with it.

Feel free to spoil me if Rachel and Ivy make out at any point, and if so, please provide page numbers with your spoilers.

That is all.
Here's the deal: I cheated with one extra word on #8, but it was too perfect. Also, please to be not killing me for #6.

In case some of you flisters hadn't noticed yet (like the name wasn't a giveaway) I used to be a big Star Wars fangirl.  It was pretty much my first fandom and back in the day I wrote a lot of Jaina/Jag fan fiction.  I even won a couple of awards for it.  Anyway, that's beside the point.

Early last year an old friend and beta of mine from the Star Wars forum where I'd posted a lot of my J/J fics asked if she could interview for the interview series that she's working on and I said yeah. The interview finally got posted up in December. I just now checked my PMs for that site which tells you how much I get back there these days and NYCitygurl had sent me a link to it, so here it is, if anyone's interested.

Seems kinda funny now, the two fandoms I was most into at the time were NCIS and the Hollows. There's no mention whatsoever of Guiding Light.

Anyway, if you were interested and you did click the link, scroll down. My username there is Jaina_Solo_15.

Note, the second: I couldn't resist the pun in the title, guys. Sorry. It was just too painfully awful to resist. Besides, we all know how much I love coming up with titles. [/sarcasm]

So, I wrote a Hollows fic for one of the December events at P&P, and I was hoping someone would mind taking a beta-type look at it for me? It's been a while, and I think my Hollows writing skills are a little rusty, so I'd really appreciate it if someone would be willing.

I have to have the fic ready to turn in on the 12th.
No, I have not been near the dread website yet again. I currently place more value on my sanity than that at the moment. I did, however, snag the paperback version of White Witch, Black Curse while I was walking through Walmart today to read the short story. Except there was no short story. There was an excerpt from the next book instead. This may be old news to everyone, but not me!

And here's where the SPOILERS start.
New book spoilers! )
