...you know, about that whole 10 fics in 10 days thing? Yeah, not gonna happen. Sorry about that. But if it's any consolation I have like 7 works in progress sitting incomplete on my google drive account right now that are not abandoned. Which is not the same as me promising that they'll all be finished someday, but you know, possibilities.

I wanna write Karla, Black Jewels fic. There's something about the concept of exploring a lesbian - canon, mind - stuck in a society that is not male dominated, but so terribly much based on the interaction and roles of the sexes that I think it would be fascinating to explore her life and the way that she dealt with being a powerful, non-traditional figure in that kind of society with very strictly ordered roles. 

I wish that Anne Bishop had explored that a little bit more, since she explicitly stated that Karla was gay - or "doesn't like men that way". It's not like this is an assumption on my part.  It is mentioned that Karla formed some sort of non-traditional family with a child and her master of the guard but as far as I know that's not elaborated on unless it's in a short story that I haven't read. And I think I have read them all. But I'd be curious to see how Karla dealt with that aspect of her life. 

It's complicated and I LIKE that. 
Which is an ironic title, because the first essay I'm going to link to deals with things like world-view and value judgments about what is good and isn't. But that's why I love it. So there. It creates emotional resonance in me, therefor I think it's important.

So how's it going for me? Why thank you for asking! It's the fifth of November and my total word count is...wait for it...let me check...54. 

But um, really it's only 52 because two of those words are "part so-and-so".

I have given myself a pep talk about not freaking out because I've written essentially nothing so far, because I've also had a crazy week this week. The thing that I have in my corner is that I don't have a set word count that I'm trying to reach, just a goal of finally finishing this fic. So it's a little less pressure that way.

I'll just start writing when I have a chance and see what happens. Hopefully it will be good fic that others enjoy reading. :) 



On a different topic, I'm exhausted and I'm not going to be updating July 5th tonight in case anyone was wondering.

So, objectively I'm more or less where I wanted to be after a week. I've gotten the seventh part almost completed, with as it stands now, there being twelve total. But the only reason I'm still on track is because the first couple of days I was doing two parts a day. This is partly due to real life stuff and partly to me having to go off outline for a while, which always slows me down, and this just being the parts of the story that I find harder to write. Hopefully though I can still finish in time. 

I have company right now and they go home on Saturday. I don't know how much I'll be able to write that day since a lot of it will be tied up with travel, but hopefully after they leave I can start getting more written again. That and I think the writing will be easier by then again. I hope!

I'm honestly not sure how I did the even number thing. It will surely never happen again.
 So, I'm doing NaNo this year. Or at least my version of it, taking advantage of fandom's general air of productiveness at that time to finish up something I've been putting off for a while. That's the plan as it stands now anyway. 

And then today I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] rysler and ended up with a plot bunny. I had sworn off starting a new fic until after NaNo, working on some drabbles I needed to finish up instead. But this plot bunny ate my brain and before I knew it, I was writing out an outline. And noting that if I wrote one part a day, I could finish just in time to start NaNo. 

For some people this is no biggie. For me...well, lets just say I got jammed on the last two thirds of the last part of the fic I just finished writing and ended up staring at a blank page for three weeks attempting to finish the damn thing. 

But I'm attempting it anyway.  Heh. 

So far, so good? Prepare to see me crash and burn tomorrow. Or feel free to bug me about it. Either one.

Edit - I should say that I don't actually have a word count goal. Just I have enough parts that I know it would be easy for me to hit that number of words, so to give a guestimate of my progress I went with that.

So, I'm not doing NaNo in the traditional sense, but I am thinking about taking advantage of November to get a solid hefty chunk of writing done on...something yet to be decided. There are several things I've been thinking about so I thought I'd throw a couple of them out and see what everyone thought.

Note: just because everyone agrees I should write something doesn't mean I necessarily will. I reserve the right to be contrary and change my mind at will. Aren't I just a bundle of laughs.

Option 1:  Finish Let Sleeping Vamps Lie. Don't everyone jump on this all at once. 

Option 2: Finish the Alphabet Drabble Meme. Yes, I know this wouldn't be that complicated for anyone else, but apparently I'm having issues with the whole drabble concept. Because they aren't working out very short and drabble-like.

Option 3: Something Otalia related. Ask [livejournal.com profile] rysler . My list of Otalia related plot bunnies is at least a mile long as is. Of course, for folks who would jump for this option first, consider that I've been working on a fairly pretty darn long Otalia fic lately that I have yet to start posting but will hopefully be completed and ready for posting in the near future. 

So...thoughts? 
1. Give me the name of a female character. I need ten. Preferably a character that I at least know what show it's from.

Disclaimer: I ask this question for purely hypothetical reasons, because I need to know for a fic. Never fear that someone was actually dumb enough to leave their child - especially one this young - in my sole care. Because they weren't and if they were I would have refused. So there.

The question: Should a one year old kid be sleeping on their back or their stomach? I feel like this is important at some point in a baby's life, like bad things could happen if you didn't do it the right way, but I don't know which one is the right way.  Or does it not matter by the time the kid's one?
