It's recap time!

Episode 9 is here. It's queer and full of cheer. Not! This season remains a parade of angst and (characters') bad decisions, but it's still good drama!

Check it out here if you haven't already and you can find your Episode 9 recap right over here.
Oh hai. Disappeared for four weeks, I did. Talk like Yoda for this whole thing I will not.

So I could give a litany of excuses and good reasons why I’m three – almost four! – weeks behind on this whole recap shenanigan situation, but I think I’ll just skip it and not bore you guys with the details. Suffice it to say there were reasons. It wasn’t just my usual lazy procrastination. And with that on to the recaps!

Episode Five

Episode Six

Episode Seven

Episode Eight

I will say that of these four episodes, episode 6 and episode 7 are probably my favorites of the season so far. Things that have been building for several season now come to a head and it's satisfying and frustrating in equal measures. And 5 and 8 aren't bad themselves. I'm just saying, if you haven't checked out this season of Venice yet, you should. It's well worth your time (and small amount of money).
...Only it was two days ago, so that's totally different.

With no further ado, I give you might slightly manic and crazy thoughts for today's Venice the Series episode, this being the fourth of the season.

Venice the Series: Season 4, Episode 4 Recap and Commentary.

But mainly, I can't not say, what the heck were you thinking, Gina? I'll leave at that so as not to spoil, but seriously. Must. Watch.

Go now!
Not just making them, although that isn't always the easiest. But choosing them. I've got the basic LJ or the sponsored...I can't even remember at this point.

Thing is I've used up all my icon slots and I've gotten into a couple new fandoms in the last year or so and I want new icons but I so don't want to part with my Abby/Ziva icons. Even though I haven't used them in forever. Even though I haven't read fic or even watched NCIS in probably a couple of years now. Sigh. They're so pretty.

...and apparently, upon looking I have many, many Venice and Otalia icons too.

Icons...the last two are NSFW )

And, lo, after all that icon deleting I still only have four icon slots available. I'd say that was long over due. But they're all so pretty!
And this is just a tiny clip, a moment that didn't even make it into the season. But good holy hot damn. It is smoking hot. And it's not just that. Their chemistry leaps of the screen and fries my damn brain.

Venice, Season 3 Finale Recap

Well one thing you can't say is that Season 3 went out with a whimper. There were so many "bangs" (not the sexy kind) and cliffhangers in this episode. My phrase of the day was certainly "holy shit!" What I loved the most was the one thing that I didn't see coming at all. Sometimes the things that happen that way irritate me more than delight me because they seem jarring or like they don't make sense in the context of the rest of the season. This revelation was totally different. It actually made the previous episodes make even more sense. So yeah, I'm a fan.

I'm also a fan of good characters - and by that I don't mean their moral character, but how well drawn they are. And these characters are very well drawn. They breathe and live and hang on the edge of vulnerability and heartache. They make decisions and then try to sort blindly through the messy complications. It's life. With an extra shot of crazy. What's not to love?

On a personal note, I hope y'all enjoyed this season as much as I did. Recapping these episodes this season - and the last one - was a hell of a lot of fun to do and I'm very proud and happy to have had the opportunity to do and do it right with the ladies I got to work with.
Venice, Season 3, Episode 11, Recap

I can't believe the penultimate episode of the season is here already! It feels like just yesterday that this season started and the day before that when we (or I!) were all wondering if Venice would even happen at all. And this season has not disappointed in the slightest. The cast is AMAZING, the scenery - and show - is jaw-droppingly gorgeous and the plot is rich and full of vivid bright emotion that pulls me in...just to stun me with a laugh in the next instant.

So check it out: Episode 11.
Venice, Season 3, Episode 10 Recap

The train's picking up momentum, y'all. I think it's going to be blasting through sunny Venice for the rest of this season, leaving havoc, destruction and a complete and total shift in the way of things in its wake. We've got sooooo many things happening and the acting is dare I say it, phenomenal. There was a moment in the end that made me want to howl at the screen as the Venice logo came back up. Because it was just that good and just that frustrating.

I want MOAR. And isn't that always a sign of the best shows?
Venice, Season 3, Episode 9 Recap

I've heard some people say that this episode fell flat for them; the comedy didn't work; they didn't like it. And that's fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. There have been a few bits of humor in earlier episodes that didn't work for me either, so I get it. But for all the people out there that this episode didn't work for, I'm really sorry. Because I found this one laugh out loud hilarious. Which was a little unfortunate because I was holed up in the college library with my laptop and backpack that weighed enough to take down an eight grader. Booming with laughter while falling out of my chair would have been a tad conspicuous is what I'm saying. I'm pretty sure I almost sprained something trying to hold it all in. Hopefully you found it as funny and hopefully you didn't have to hold it in.

I hope the recap brings you almost as much amusement and thank you all for bearing with our support of the Sopa related blackout yesterday. That thing needs to be gone - yesterday - and take Pipa with it.

Episode 9 Recap Blacked Out to Protest SOPA/PIPA

Odds are you’re looking for the recap of episode nine of Venice Season 3. Unfortunately, you won’t be finding it here today.

We apologize that we can’t provide the recap this evening. We know many people look forward to reading it, and we certainly enjoy sharing our discussion of the show. However, alongside many other websites, we are adhering to the Internet Blackout of January 18, 2012 to protest the possibility that Congress may adopt the bills known as SOPA and PIPA as they are currently written.

If these laws are passed, many of the things we do in creating these recaps – such as linking to film or TV clips or using screencaps to illustrate our point – would be illegal. Currently, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) provides a safe harbor for bloggers and other content providers. If we use something that is technically under copyright, the copyright holder is obligated to notify us and request that the offending item be removed from our posting. SOPA and PIPA would strip us of that protection. Additionally, though we often link to copyrighted material, we believe we have a legal right as critics to do so. SOPA and PIPA would remove our ability to argue this through due process. Our site could be removed from the internet without our ability to present a legal challenge. These bills engender censorship and create a chilling effect on creativity and innovation.

This doesn’t just apply to us. It applies to anyone who has ever linked to a film clip or a song on Facebook or Twitter. It applies to anyone who has ever spent an afternoon catching up on Bo and Carly clips or relived the magic of Otalia on YouTube or watched a fanvid. One could argue that Venice would not exist without the enormous response that Otalia created – a response that was fueled in large part by people being able to enjoy these clips over and over again. As Rysler points out, she never saw a single moment of Otalia before Guiding Light ended its run on CBS. Under these laws, that content would have been inaccessible to her once the show ended.

If you want the Internet to remain free and for “safe harbor” laws to remain in effect, we urge you to contact your US Representatives and Senators and tell them that you do not want them to support SOPA (House) or PIPA (Senate).

Do it for Otalia. Do it for yourself.

Sincerely,

Jaina, Rysler, and Kelinswriter
 VENICE!

I haven't said a thing about it all season - the past 2 months! Eight episodes of pure freaking awesome!  No, really. It is so much better than Season 1.

They got rid of Leslie Kay. I have no great dislike for the actress, but she just didn't gel for me and I'm glad they didn't just try to keep making that work.

The writing - it ain't perfect, but what is? - but it's also a hundred times better than last season. It's broken into actual episodes, so that it's watchable - episodic television vs. a movie that you just see in spaced out, weekly chunks.

And while we're talking about episodes, lets mention episode lengths. Because, guys? The little ticker said 18:36 or something like that for episode time the other day. No lie. None of this three minute crap.

As for the plot/characters, well the season started with a bang, and it's continued on nicely. There's only been one episode where I've been a little meh. One episode - the most recent - even made me write fic.  Which is awesome.  The Lara/Ani progressed on as you would expect from the previous season but with better chemistry and a bit of tension lurking in the background which added some spice to it. Gina and Ani aren't together. Not yet. But that doesn't mean that their scenes aren't filled with every bit of the chemistry they possess and all the layers that Otalia brought to the table.

Well worth watching if you're an Otalia fan jonesing for a new fix, or just for someone who wants to watch a good show with girls making out with girls. Girls who just so happen to be incredibly hot.

Because if possible, Venice got even prettier than last season. Seriously.

And, why, you ask, if this is as awesome as you say, have you not been rhapsodizing about it here on LJ? Well, I have just not on my LJ. My bad, check out Rysler's awesome Venice reviews here

Buffy: Anya, when you were a demon, you granted wishes, right?
Anya: Vengeance wishes on ex-boyfriends. I'd wish he was a dog, or ugly, or in love with President McKinley or something.
Buffy: But someone could wish the whole world to be different, right? That's possible?
Anya: Sure, alternate realities. You could, uh, could have like a world without shrimp. Or with, you know, nothing but shrimp. You could even make like a-a freaky world where Jonathan's like some kind of not-perfect mouth-breather if that's what's blowing up your skirt these days. Just don't ask me to live there!  - Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Phoebe: Hang in there. It's gonna happen!
Ross: Okay, now, how do you know that?
Phoebe: Because she's your lobster!
[At a loss, Ross looks at Chandler.]
Chandler: Oh, she's going somewhere.
Phoebe: Come on, you guys, it's a known fact that lobsters fall in love and mate for life. You know what, you can actually see old lobster couples walking around their tank, you know, holding claws… - Friends
