...Only it was two days ago, so that's totally different.

With no further ado, I give you might slightly manic and crazy thoughts for today's Venice the Series episode, this being the fourth of the season.

Venice the Series: Season 4, Episode 4 Recap and Commentary.

But mainly, I can't not say, what the heck were you thinking, Gina? I'll leave at that so as not to spoil, but seriously. Must. Watch.

Go now!
Now live! That only took forever.

I was reminded a minute ago as I put in the title of this post how down right amazing it is that this show even exists, let alone has four full seasons so far. It seemed like a pipe dream when Crystal Chappell started talking in interviews about wanting to do her own web series. I would never have imagined that it could get this big and be this successful. It's a testament to the fans of Guiding Light who loved Otalia so much, and to the people who never even watched Guiding Light but got sucked in by something good. It's even more a testament to Ms. Chappell's talent, determination and appreciation for her fans.

I just wanted to take a minute to remember that and to appreciate it. My complaint when I was figuring out that I was gay, was that there was so little media, especially television and movies, that portrayed lesbians in a positive light and with a happy ending. I don't know if Venice is going to have a happy ending, and I sure as hell hope we don't find out soon, but I do love knowing that I don't have to worry about seeing negative, discriminatory views of gays and lesbians portrayed as the right way of thinking when I sit down to watch an episode of Venice. Love is love is love. Even when it makes me want to pull my hair out.

It's that time of week again. Wednesday is here (and gone) and I'm recapping this week's episode of Venice. Woo. For the second episode of the season, you have to go to the Venice site and get a subscription to watch, but trust me, peeps, it's so well worth it.

If you haven't caught up yet, the first episode of the season is still on Youtube. Check it out! It's well worth your time.

And last but not least my recap for Episode 4 is sitting over here, waiting for you to feast your eyes on and tell me what all I got wrong and right about yesterday's episode.

After a year and a half, we finally have new Venice! It picks up right where it left off with Owen and scissors! Check it out for yourself and then come check out my thoughts on this first episode. I'll be discussing Venice over there all season long.

So after spending the last several days talking non-stop about how much I was looking forward to seeing IM3 I figured a reaction post was only in order.

It goes without saying that there will be SPOILERS. Big, honking GIANT SPOILERS. You have been warned.

Brutal assessment: )
Title: The Push and Pull
Fandom: The Good Wife
Characters: Alicia Florrick, Kalinda Sharma, Nick Savarese, Peter Florrick
Category: Angst, Drama, Romance
Rating: R
Word count: 4,944
Summary: It's a dance between them, push and pull, getting close but never too close. It's tearing Kalinda apart.
Spoilers/Timeline: For Je Ne Sais What? It goes AU directly after that episode ends though sadly. I'd intended to post this weeks ago; such a slacker.
Disclaimer: All characters (Alicia Florrick, Kalinda Sharma blah blah etc.) and situations belong to Scott Brothers, and some other people who have a hershey bar for a logo. Not me.
Beta: Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] tamoline and her beta for taking a look at this for me and offering many helpful comments. Anything that still seems goofy is entirely my doing. :)

(1/1)
I wrote another Good Wife fic. [livejournal.com profile] tamoline was awesome enough to beta it for me and someday I might actually get around to posting it. Sigh.

Despite last week's brush with the flu, I'm actually feeling pretty good out about my workout regimen at the moment. Trying to work in some more strength training related stuff. My muscles do not approve. As in, ow, fuck that hurts. So far so good in the weight loss department though.

As much as I love Farscape I've never watched it from the beginning so it's my current "watch while working out" show. I love not having to stream it as my streaming capabilities blow. There's nothing so irritating as desperately trying to watch some show to distract me from the boredom, screaming muscles and panting lungs of my out of shape body while having it endlessly buffer. It actually makes it more painful.

I'd already caught the first two episodes of Season 1 on previous workout days a few months ago. I kind of ran out of room on my iPhone to put more stuff on there and I didn't want to take anything off and I'm a little OCD about it. Anyway, today I started with the third episode of Season 1: Exodus for Genesis.

(Do I need to say SPOILERS? There are SPOILERS.)

I won't say that it was Farscape's finest hour - there are too many really good episodes for that - but it was a good solid hour (ish) of television.

Dentics are gross, and so was the bug of the week. The first season seems big on bugs of the week. John learned a Very Important Lesson courtesy of Zahn. I <3 Zahn. Also, we got our introduction to Heat Delirium, the Living Death and Aeryn asked John to kill her (mercy killing). For Aeryn, that was practically hearts and flowers and have my babies, John. If only John knew.

I thought the plot of the week was a little trite and Star Trek-y, where everyone "learned" something but over all I liked it. It had a lot of good character moments and the John/Aeryn is already starting to build. Boy, he really was always head over heels for her wasn't he? It's sooooo painfully obvious.

Rygel! I think he can be underrated sometimes. He gets written off as the irritating comic relief, but I love that little muppet. He deserves more credit for making the show awesome, and low down and grubby. Sometimes he's the realest thing on this show full of very real characters. I don't think he gets enough credit. Heh.

Early morning tomorrow. I really, really want to get up and workout. I will. I will. I will. We'll see (if I post about tomorrow's episode). Yeah, that's it.

I'm headed out of town next week so I doubt I'll be posting anything, but we'll see.

I need a Farscape icon.

Max

( Jan. 30th, 2013 08:46 pm)
Max - Maximus, Maxi, Maxwell, Maximilliam, and occasionally Maxi-Pad - he of the many names, was eleven years old this January. We've had him since he was a little puppy that looked like nothing more than a poofy rug than a breed once cultivated by royalty. I was fourteen when we got him and I didn't want him. We'd had two dogs - Dodger and Joe - a English Springer Spaniel and purebred Labrador Retriever respectively for a while. Dodge was probably four or five years old and Joe was just a puppy, about six months old at the time, but he was already shaping up to be an awesome hunting dog. They got out the front door one day, plowing out before their leashes were on and darted across the four-lane-at-that-time-undivivided-highway. They were fine until they tried to come back across the road and then there was a sudden, a little unusual, burst of traffic. I saw them both get hit. I won't go into details here, but even now, over a decade later I still remember how it happened like it was in slow motion and all the weird little emotions and things you remember that come with it.

My sister is big on getting another dog. She's always had dogs and she wanted another one immediately. It's how she copes, I guess. I'm pretty much the opposite. My pet dies; I have the urge to never get attached to anything ever again. I don't want to replace anything. It's not good or bad, just a thing. But she got Max, the little shit, and I spent the first two months we had him not getting attached and calling him the suicide dog because he did his best to kill himself about four different ways.

He weighed barely two pounds probably and managed to sit in an fire ant bed and get covered from head to tail in bites. A few scant days later, he managed to ingest some rat poison. Less than a week after that at a friend's house, it was some bug poison. I kind of hated him for almost dying on me so many times when I didn't like him and didn't want him anyway. I didn't want to care. But the little shit kept living. For a long, long time. Longer than any dog I ever had, except for the first one that I grew up with. I sort of thought that Maxi might be around forever.

About two weeks ago we found out that he had Cushing's disease and his prognosis wasn't looking good. We knew he was old and had pretty bad arthritis anyways. We didn't want him to suffer. Then he got a puncture wound in his paw. We're not sure how - no one was out there at the time. There's a possibility that it was a snake bite. But at any rate after he got the wound, he was way worse. He was shaking all the time and laying around on the floor with sad eyes. He couldn't even jump up on my sister's bed anymore - always, always his favorite spot.

He was a spoiled, whiny, neurotic little shit, prone to barking at people he knew really well at super inconvenient hours of the night. He was worthless and kind of snooty and I'm crying as I type this 'cause I miss him. He was cute and his tail uncurled, but only when he was depressed and he always knew when you were sad or upset and he'd stick close or come up and nuzzle your hand. I miss the little guy. I don't want to forget him. So this is for Maxi. I wish I could pick him up and give him one last hug, scratch his ear.

Title: Love Is.
Fandom: The Good Wife
Characters: Alicia Florrick, Kalinda Sharma, Nick Savarese, Peter Florrick
Category: Angst, Drama, Romance
Rating: PG-13
Word count: 1,094
Summary: There are only a few things that matter to Kalinda Sharma. Alicia Florrick is one of them. Picks up directly after "Battle of the Proxies."
Spoilers/Timeline: For "Battle of the Proxies" with some speculation about future events thrown in.
Disclaimer: All characters (Alicia Florrick, Kalinda Sharma blah blah etc.) and situations belong to Scott Brothers, and some other people who have a hershey bar for a logo. Not me.
Author's Note: Originally written for the [livejournal.com profile] dogged_by_muses Winter 2012 Advent Calendar. If you read it there it should probably be noted that I tweaked the ending a little bit. Kalinda is after all the ultimate pragmatist and I'm not sure the other ending quite rung true. Then again I'm not entirely certain about this one either. It is what it is.

...you know, about that whole 10 fics in 10 days thing? Yeah, not gonna happen. Sorry about that. But if it's any consolation I have like 7 works in progress sitting incomplete on my google drive account right now that are not abandoned. Which is not the same as me promising that they'll all be finished someday, but you know, possibilities.

Hope everyone's having a good weekend.
10 Fics For 10 Days

So the things is lately (the past two years) I've been feeling spectacularly unproductive as far as fic writing goes. There's been reasons for it. Last year was crazy busy and blah blah blah. But this is something that's been going on longer than that, I think. Probably since I finished up with th [livejournal.com profile] fanfic100 hing I was doing for NCIS.

While I was working on that there was some pressure to finish that before, you know, I died, and the inspiration and motivation was kind of built in. Then I went pretty much straight from that to Otalia. Not that Otalia isn't still awesome but as I've said here before I think I've said almost everything I want/need to say about that for the moment. So writing-ly speaking (wow, awesome phrasing, dude) I'm kind of at lose ends for the moment. There are fandoms I'm in to, things I want to squee about, but nothing that's really, really pushing me to write. Mainly I think I've been sitting around waiting for something to just deliver itself to my brain and be awesome, divine inspiration if you will, minus the sanctity but with the implication of miraculously appearing wholly formed in my head.

Which is basically bullshit if you think about it. Nothing just appears in your head unless you're a seriously lucky bastard. Sometimes you just have to write. And write. And then write some more. Then you have to realize that it doesn't matter if it's all crap because the experience is the thing and it's all about practice, practice, practice.

Most of you, I'm sure already know this. Mainly I'm repeating all this crap for my own benefit. Don't mind me. Which is to say that I'm going to be subjecting y'all to hopefully 1 fic a day for the next 10 days. 10 days because it's a nice solid, arbitrary number that didn't seem too daunting, with a word count goal of about 1,667 words per story. Why that? Well some of y'all might recognize that number as the word count you need to hit per day to make the NaNoWriMo goal and you'd be right, but also because it's a nice size number that isn't too small but I shouldn't have a problem hitting in an hour or two. So there.

There are no words for how happy, excited and giddy with relief that I was both last night and this morning. I'm not as up as some on the electoral map. I only knew vaguely which states Obama was supposed to win and which ones were a lock for Romney. It looked pretty scary as the electoral votes came in. First Romney was in the lead, then Obama caught up, then Romney led again. And it was getting seriously nerve wracking. I remember Bush/Kerry. It was nerve wracking too and it came minus that happy ending.

Last night, thank god, was different. Barrack Obama won and in January we'll celebrate his inauguration again. I couldn't be happier.

Gay marriage was upheld in Maryland and Washington State, passed in Maine, not smacked down some more in Minnesota. All in all it was a damn good day to be a lady and gay. Very good.

A law was passed in Massachusetts legalizing medical marijuana, while Colorado and Washington state made it legal for use without a doctor's prescription. It will be very interesting to see if those law goes to the Supreme Court with a case. I've been for legalizing marijuana for some time now, but I worry a little that it will hurt people who have legitimate, serious addictions. I don't think marijuana is as bad as some drugs but people who have addictions tend to deny that they're addicted. Making this legal will make it easier for them to deny that they're intoxicated/doing anything wrong/not sober. I hope people are still able to get the help they need. ::shrug::

And as for my beloved current state (/sarcasm) we passed the amendment leaving racist language in our constitution. The infuriating part is that it was HIGHLY NECESSARY because without leaving that in it would have stripped away the right of the children of this state to have an education. How fucked is that? We have to keep racist language to protect children's education. Hopefully at some point in the future the legislature of this state and it's people will get their heads out of their asses and fix this so that the children of this state can both be proud of their state for not having racist language in its constitution and still get to be educated. Fingers crossed.

As for my election day drabbles. I'm not taking any more prompts, but I will finish writing the ones that I've already gotten and at some point I'll post the ones that I got on [livejournal.com profile] passion_perfectand [livejournal.com profile] tonypepper here.

Thanks for helping to keep me distracted everyone!
Well if you live in the United States today, it's a little bit hard to escape all the election day drama. But if you're like me and you've already voted, there's nothing else you can do about it.

So I decided I'd take prompts (fandom/pairing/prompt) and try to knockout some drabbles both to distract me and to entertain others. If you want a drabble, then hit me up in the comments.

Edit - Thanks everyone for distracting me! I'm not taking any more prompts but I will finish up the ones I've been given (hopefully today!) and post them later!
