My Thoughts on Friending

Hi,

So a few people have friended me lately that I don't really know, and I haven't added ya'll back.  Hi.  Thanks for friending me.  That was cool of you.  I'm assuming you're here for the fic, because there's not much else of interest in my LJ, and that's great.  I really appreciate that anyone would be interested enough to friend me.

I'm gonna admit though, that I'm a leery re-friend-er.  This is because I'm paranoid.  I've been around the internet for, oh, about nine years now.  I've spent the bulk of that time on some pretty great message boards.  But in that time I've also run into some not very nice people who really don't like me and my friends.  Also the internet can be a scary place.  Look no further than the kid who committed suicide because of myspace bullying or a dozen other incidents. 

Now I'm not saying anyone who's friended me is a scary psycho.  Ya'll all seem to be pretty nice.  But in general, if someone friends me that I don't know from else where, I'm not gonna friend them back.  If you wanna get to know me, comment in my LJ a few times, and let me know you're friending me, odds are I'll friend you back. 

So, I just figured it was time to say something about all that.

My f-list has grown in leaps and bounds the past couple of weeks. Due mostly to my fic writing. I'm worried I'm going to regreat this in time(say after the holidays). :/ At one point I knew everyone REALLY WELL on my f-list. Enough so that would throw my snail mail addy all over the place (my LJ is F-locked). Now, I don't know. Eh.

Friending is a sketchy thing.

Eh, it can be kinda tough because you wanna be nice and don't want to offend anyone who friends you, but at the same time I've seen enough nasty e-situations that I'm always a little leery...

Exactly. I have a fic-only journal, I may try to steer some poeple to it, as a few of my f-list are ONLY fic people. Ugh. It's a fine line.

okay I can understand your hesitaion in friending people back. I admit I friended you for your rachel/ivy fic. Do you post it in a communty?

Seems perfectly reasonable, and I can't say I disagree with you on any particular point. Thank you for your honesty.
This is not me trying to get you to friend me, as honestly, I don't care whether you do or don't, that's entirely your choice (obviously), I friended you so I didn't have to hunt every time to see if you've written something new. Just so you know. ;)

That is the reason I friended you. :) I find you to be an excellent author and i know when I read your fics that it will be time well spent. I'm a huge fan of your abby/ziva and your rachel/ivy stuff. I also added you as a friend because when I started posting in live journal I was a little confused and you were awesome enough to help me out. Thanks again!
