Okay, so I know there are some brilliant-smart ladies on my flist who know lots and lots about video editing, and I was hoping someone could help me out.

Here's what I want to do: I downloaded some clips (mpeg4 files) and I want to cut out part of the clips because a) I'm not interested in that part, and b) it'll save me a whole bunch of space on my ipod Nano.  The thing is I'm not sure the easiest (and requiring the least downloading) way to go about this.  My computer has Windows Movie Maker which looks like it could do it, but that doesn't recognize the file type.  Is there some kind of preferable-y free upgrade that will solve that? Is this way over my technology skillz level?

Does anyone have any suggestions?  Any help would be appreciated.

i could give you a messy answer convert the mp4 to avi,wmv etc so that wmm would recognize it. handbrake is a popular and free converter.

Yeah, that occurred to me after I made this post. Lol, although I admit I was hoping for a slightly less convoluted solution. :p

Thanks for the suggestion, though!
