1. What fandoms are you into watching/reading right now?

CASTLE, OMG! Can Castle and Beckett just please to be doing it already? Geez.

The Hollows - sort of, kind of. I don't know. There's something about Rachel that keeps me coming back to the books even when they're horrible. Kind of like Ivy to Rachel. But i'll get into that more with the next question. 

Grey's Anatomy - just because. It's a comfortable habit. I've watched since the beginning and Callie and Arizona, while are nothing necessarily to write home about, are hot and do not make me wanna cry or bang my head against a wall. 

Alphas - It's a new-ish Sci-fi show. So far my favorite character is the autistic kid who sees computer signals. Which, btw, awesome super power. I'd love to be able to jack into the internet with just my head. There's even some slight femslash potential. 

And last but not least, Venice. Hot actressess, the gay is front and center, and the soapy twists and turns are fun. I want the pay off, damn it and this brings it. There's also kick ass dramatic "oh-no-she-didn't" storylines as a bonus. Did I mention the hot lady sexy times? Because there are lots of those. 


2. Can Kim Harrison ever make me want to read the Hallows again? 

Oh god. Did you read Pale Demon? I mean it kind of sucked on the Rachel/Ivy front. Or was not the awesomeness of A Fistful of Charms, but it did have Rachel talking about not acting like an idiot and actually following through on that. Granted the compromise was Trent character assassination and making him act like an idiot, but apparently we, the reader, cannot have everything. I'm holding out for a happy Rachel/Ivy ending in the last sentence of the last paragraph of the last book. That will not be enough for most fans. Maybe if it was the whole last book? I don't know. She's done a lot to alienate her fans by this point. I guess something about Rachel's repeated idiocy just appeals to me. I find it amusing? I don't know. If I had to deal with her personally, it would not be with Ivy like results that's for sure. So I guess I'd say if there was anything that KH could do to win you back, it would probably be to let the characters return to acting how they were originally written, not they way they were written after their behavior freaked her out and made her run screaming back for the straight and narrow. 

That's why I'm hoping with her last book, and maybe financial constraints not as constrainty as in the middle of the series she'll give us Ravy. I hope. 


3. What are you doing for school/work these days? 

School. Mostly school. I was one very crammed semester short of finishing my A.A. so I'm going for it full tilt. Some days with more success than others. But I'll be done and that's progress. Work is the same old, same old. Winter isn't our busiest season, but we're actually building in the house so that's adding another special layer of crazy to things at the moment. What I would give for a sunny day and a quite space right now.

5. Goals for writing? 

I want to write a novel. That sounds so cheesy right? Everyone says that. And I'm still kind of in that weird limbo stage. I don't really have a plot that is demanding me to write it yet. I kind of need that. There are a few fan fic things that I have in progress and want to write but nothing major. I've been getting the itch to write again lately, but I haven't had anything scream that it must be written. Which is probably good with the whole school consuming most of my waking hours thing I have going on right now. 

6. One thing on your "I wants" list?

An unlimited amount of money to spend on amazon.com so I could indulge my fancy for all-right-ish lesbian novels. Oh and I want The Grove webseries to start filming already.

So I've been told that I'm secretive and mysterious - which fair enough. *grin* I'll admit it's intentional in part. Before coming to hang out on IF I was an administrator on a board that had a group of people that really HATED it. And were using any information available to make people's lives hell, both on and offline. 

One friend of mine of that board left some of her personal information a little too visible on Facebook - back in the olden days when you could only join if you were a student - and ended up getting harassed over the phone by some dude multiple states away. And then there was the married dude who tried to chat me up - as a "friend" - wanted to come visit me, and then after very narrowly declining his request, found out that he was divorcing his wife and there was some question of getting brought up on charges for statutory rape. 

Which is to say those kind of things have made me understandably cagey with personal information. 

But I have no problem with the Crew's curiosity. Mainly my information hiding ways are a result of leftover bad experiences and starting out in online communities as an underage user - the less I said about myself and my age, the better. 

However, I'm offering now, ask me anything you want...and I'll answer. Fulfill your curiosity. 

 I watched the premiere and I thought it was pretty fun. It's nice to see Sascha Alexander again and this role looks like it suits her. 

I continue to find it amusing and ironic that while Angie Harmon is the most conservative Republican to ever conserve or republic, the woman can be counted on to bring the femslashy subtext no matter what. I...don't understand, but I'll take it.

Snagged from geonncannon: Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments, and I'll answer. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general. Favorite character, favorite moment, unpopular opinion, something about a fic of mine... whatever. Wackiness encouraged.

As a fandom, Guiding Light is very different for me than the other fandoms that I've been involved in.  

For one thing, it's a fandom that has a canon pairing.  That's a first for me.  All the other fandoms that I've participated in that involve femslash is reliant solely on subtext that is so microscopic as to be invisible.  You can make a case for a pairing, but there is no evidence to back it up, nothing that you can point out to a skeptic and say "these women are a couple. I'm not crazy." 

And then there's the fandom.  This fandom is special.  I've heard people say it before about other groups of fans and I've said it myself. There are amazing people in fandom, but I think this group really is special.  They are articulate.  Passionate, but not disturbing (and I know disturbing).  They understand that entertainment is a business and they approach their goals in that manner.  They are respectful and positive, but open to debate and differing points of view.  For the longest time, they were optimistic.  

This is the first soap opera I've ever watched, so I don't know if this is a soap thing. From what I've heard, it's not.  But the access that particularly Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia have given their fans is amazing.  Their openness, their dedication to the storyline.  They've gone so far beyond the dictates of their job and even beyond the efforts of many of the dedicated and out-reaching actors/creators that I've seen in other fandom places that it's honestly just unbelievable.

I had no intention of getting into Guiding Light when it first exploded into constant femslash visibility.  It couldn't be ignored. It was everywhere.  Usually I'll admit this produces a knee-jerk reaction in me to avoid something with as much determination as the people who are trying to sell it to me are using in presenting it.  But one day, out of boredom, I watched a clip.  What I saw was definitely a soap opera. I rolled my eyes at the heart transplant, at the woman falling in love with the wife of the woman who's heart was keeping her alive.  It was cheesy and kind of unbelievable frankly, but what killed me was what came after that.  The painful emotional confession, the true selflessness of her love for Natalia (okay, for the most part), and the tentative steps back toward one another.  That's what got me hooked.

After seeing that clip, I wanted more. I had to see where these women went.  I've been involved in a lot of fandoms, and I've seen the characters and plots that I've rooted for and been interested in on my favorite tv shows and books get screwed over more times than I can count, and I'm not just talking about femslash here. This is fans and fandom in general. Most of the time, I'm first in line to lead the cynic parade.  If there's a way to screw something up or screw over the fans, well, I'm the first to believe that's gonna happen. I used to be a part of group of fans who considered the writers on a particular show a group of 'crack smoking monkeys'.  Okay, that's not a compliment.  It really was that bad.

But this time, with this fandom, I made a conscious decision to ditch the cynicism.  I was going to go in with a positive attitude and embrace optimism. If the show made a mistake, I could admit that fair enough. Optimism isn't being blind to faults. It's hoping for the best, despite the faults.  But what I didn't want is to get so caught up in what the show was doing wrong, that I lost sight of and the enjoyment in, what they happened to be doing right.  

Slowly, with the cancellation of Guiding Light rapidly approaching, and the announcement of the pregnancy storyline, Guiding Light fans and especially Otalia fans have been losing their faith and optimism in the writing and creative staff of Guiding Light. Or really who the hell ever is making these decisions. We've heard all of the excuses. CBS, Proctor and Gamble, the Standards and Practices folks, Ellen Wheeler, even Jill Lorie Hurst.  I don't know, but it's kind of not the point. Does it really matter to me who's making these decisions, as long as I have to view the consequences? Not really. Not to me at least.

Many people hated the pregnancy storyline. I wasn't particularly one of them. I hated the leaving-without-so-much-as-a-note-or-smoke-signal storyline more than that.  It's been long rumored that Otalia fans won't even get so much as a kiss. It's a possibility, and a very, very good one at this point that rumor is true, but until today I've been holding out hope that it will actually happen.  I'm not sure why.  I think I took that clinging to optimism thing pretty seriously, because I really do have a special place in my heart for this fandom and I think a lot of it does have to do with how I approached it.

Do I think a kiss will happen? At this point...who the hell knows? I can think of several people who do know for sure, but they aren't saying definitively.  Is it looking pretty damn gloomy? Yep. Yep, it really is.  Do I think a kiss will happen? Not really. Am I going to keep hoping to the very end? I am actually. Until the final shot of the final scene of the final show, I'm going to keep holding out.  Maybe just because I'm a determined stubborn little shit.

Then...then I'll be dissapointed (possibly crushed), but until it ends I'm going to hold out.  I'm going to cling to the last shreds of my newly found optimism and enjoy the rest of the show (and the fans, and the fan fiction) for as long as it lasts.  Of course after that I'm sure I'll return to my default cynical bitch - probably worse than ever before, but for now, that's just how I want to finish enjoying the rest of this show that has given me so much enjoyment thus far.

Okay, so I'm kinda stressed and depressed today.  To help me get out of my funk, I thought it might be fun to take a few fic prompts.

Heh. The Hollows surprised me really. The first book I read was For a Few Demons More and honestly, while I was interested I was kinda lost and not that impressed and then I started skimming through towards the end and all of a sudden, holy hell, but there were hot girls making out in hot ways in the totally random book that I'd never heard of before! It was an oversight that I had to immediately rectify and I went out and found the other books pretty soon after that. The more I read the more totally freaking obvious and inevitable the relationship between Rachel and Ivy seemed from the beginning of the series. After that...well, my immediate impulse with a fandom that I like is to fic it, so...when I realized there was an audience for it, I dove right in. The rest is history, or so they say. :p

2. When did you first start writing? What was the impetous?

Oh god. This is where it gets embarrassing. I was fourteen the first time I started writing fan fiction. I discovered fic totally by accident. I was really into Star Wars and I just kinda stumbled across it around the time I discovered the internet. At first I kinda thought it was blasphemy and then I realized that for a fast reading, book junkie like me it was kind of heaven if you could actually find good fic. So eventually I really wanted to read stories about the relationship between Jaina Solo and Mara Jade. In retrospect I had a massive crush on Mara Jade. I did say this was gonna be embarrassing right? So anyway, I couldn't find any of these fics that were like I wanted so I got the brilliant idea to write my own story. To say it sucked and was really awful, would probably be a massive understatement. After that I got lucky and I ran into this twenty-one year old grad student who I talked into letting me beta for her, which...god, I so don't know how I did that. So in return she beta'd for me, and that's pretty much how I learned most of the basic language and/or grammar skills that I now have.

3. What is your inspiration in life?

Um, I'm supposed to have inspiration? Oops. I dunno. I wouldn't really consider myself inspired. I've never known what I wanted to do with my life or had any dreams really. It sounds sad, but I don't know. If you mean inspiration in the sense, of people you look up to and want to be like, I'd have to say my Dad. I grew up practically worshiping him and when he fell off the pedestal for me it was kinda hard, but it kind of made me love him more, because he had issues just like me. So, yeah. This should totally be called 'The Way More Than You Wanted To Know' Quiz.

4. What is your greatest fear?

Loosing my family. No contest. Sometimes I feel like they're strangling me and I don't know how to deal with them. But I couldn't deal without them either. They're the most important thing to me.

5. What is one thing you must do before you die?

I guess this one sorta goes along with the dreams thing. If I'd been asked several years ago, I'd have said go to NYC, but I've been there now. Um, I have a very TMI answer, but I'm not going there. So...I guess, um, not be alone. I know that sounds like a crazy goal, but I think I'd like to find a person that I want to spend the rest of my life, or at least the forseable future with as a partner. Wow. That was cheesy.
