As for Jenks, I think there's a difference between going red in the face 'flushing' and 'blushing'. Take Ronald Weasley. There's nothing 'cutesy' about Ron, but the boy goes red all the time, usually with anger or by getting so emotionally worked up the blood goes to his face. That's what I intended to convey with Jenks' flush. He was embarrassed about being emotional about his daughter and how it had contributed to his fight with Rachel. He didn't particularly like apologizing. So he was sorta all not really angry, but grumpy and embarrassed because he was having to do it. I hope that makes more sense.
I think in that situation getting all red-faced is a very manly thing to do. ;)
