I think in a lot of ways femslash isn't just about romance between women, although it is, but it can also just be about the way that women relate to women without having it center on men, and I think that's an area that doesn't get explored enough in more general types of fan fiction.
It doesnt get explored in more general types of ANY fiction, and you are totally correct. I don't know what it is about (and I'm generalizing here a bit) straight women that OMG THEY CAN'T HAVE OTHER WOMEN AROUND CUZ ZOMGBITCHES! But its stupid. All of my meaningful relationships (and I in no way mean romantic) have been with other women. And most were long before I understood I was gay.
